The Clickable Table of Contents
(C-TOC) enables you to access rapidly passages of your interviews.
These pieces are the actual TOC of the interview.
Why? Imagine, you have an interview with a length of 3 hours.
Transcribe it, and you will have nearly hundred pages of dense text.
You still do not know what is the content unless you have red it.
The Clickable TOC, on the other hand, offers you a structure of the
interview. Simply by looking at the outline you are informed what it is
about. Furthermore, and more importantly, you can instantly access the
segments. They are just a mouseclick away – no need of winding a
tape recorder or a minidisk.
You can still transcribe the passages that are important for you,
others you can leave as they are. For many users there is no
transcribing necessary whatsoever, because your have pieces of, say,
half a minute or a minute length that are clearly market. You can
easily refer to these segments. In Atlas.ti you can use them as basic
elements for all future analysis. Another possibility to work with
C-TOCs is to use the freely available software Winamp.
